Making these we embrace that there are irregularly printed fronts and backs of the previous existing now upcycle shirts that creates new unexpected relationships of words and images. So when you order one , you will know the size and colors , but you may not know 100% what your print combo is , we hope everyone embraces it’s part of the fun , they’re all good !
T-shirts are a huge part of our waste stream , I think we can all agree merchandise is the most disposable and discardable of our wardrobes . T-shirts make up roughly 25% of the monthly 60 million garments flooding second hand clothing markets in Accra Ghana (data collected by the incredible OR Foundation @theorispresent - go follow them to learn more ) We embrace the aesthetic irregularity of recycling that material back into our closets — each mash up is unique.
We see products as a Trojan Horse carrying the story and instigating a conversation around the problematic industry practices that create these waste streams , we are honored to work with the team at the Kokrobitey Institute , for over 30 years directed by educator and artist Renee C Neblett , KI has held space for curriculums and projects critical of “western” models of development .
